UNE INVITATION À L'AMOUR SPÉCIAL
If thou be blithe and bonny from Avalon fair
I mean, just ancestry, as well from Auld Strathcona on the Whyte
And gilded with tresses bespoke of the sun
I shall cheer ye with vernal warmth from southern shores
In meet tryst at Yuletide's hoary mistletoed gate
And thou shalt find thyself a bard of latter-day
And rarer than the usual run of men, more mystic than thou canst aught imagine, more romantic than thou canst pray.
And in this refreshment of latter-day spring
Roses from the south I bring
Foliage to soothe our enamoured spirit
With a honeyed and heavenly homecoming. August 2007
Dearest Joanna
Come climb with me through woods and hills
Echoing the legendary rills of archaic time
List to the vanished fount of primal origins sublime
As we revel in communion of dance around the sacred tree
I shall requite thy heart of delight and liberty
I love thy fair countenance which sweetly brings
Such overtures from thy homeland’s carnival of sportive rings
Wilt thou venture to regale me with your resplendent presence?
We knew each other in another time and life
If these effusings may summon to sense
Thou whom I regard in prospect as better than wife
Rather certain, after all that is said and done
Albeit with a little diffidence
That we are simply a match made in Heaven
Entrance in mirth and jollity these kisses three
A kiss for bliss
Another for sheer felicity
Best of all, long, luscious and lovingly. 1 August 2012
